Tag bills, transactions and vendors
Add short labels like a property, job or vehicle to bills, transactions and vendors, then find them by tag and see reports for one tag.
Tags are short labels you add to a bill, transaction or vendor: a property (12 Oak Ave), a job (Smith kitchen), a vehicle (Van 2), a client. They let you pull together everything for one thing, even when it's spread across vendors and categories.
Add tags#
Add a bill, transaction or vendor as usual, or open one and click Edit.
Click in Tags, near the bottom of the form.
Type a tag and press Enter (or type a comma). Tags you've used before in your workspace are suggested as you type.
Add more if you need them, then save.
Good to know:
An item can have up to 10 tags, each up to 30 characters.
The same tag can't be added twice to one item (Oak Ave and oak ave count as the same).
To take a tag off, click the × on it, or press Backspace in an empty Tags box to remove the last one.
Tags you've typed stay put when you read a receipt into the form or switch the form between Transaction and Bill to pay.
Next month's copy of a repeating bill starts without tags.
Tags show as small labels on the item's row and at the top of its panel.
Find things by tag#
Bills to pay: once any bill has a tag, an All tags menu appears at the top. Pick a tag to see only those bills.
Transactions, Bills to pay and Vendors: the search box also finds tags. Type the tag in Search transactions, Search bills or Search vendors.
Reports: pick a tag in the Tag: row to see spending for just that tag. See Read your reports.
Tags or categories?#
Each item has one Category (like Rent or Supplies) for the kind of spending. Tags are extra, and an item can have several. Use categories for what the money was for and tags for who or where it was for: a plumber's bill could be category Maintenance & repairs with the tag 12 Oak Ave.
If your workspace is on the Business plan, departments are another way to split spending, with their own managers and budgets.
