Change someone's role
Make someone an admin, an employee, a worker, an accountant or view only from the Team page.
You can change anyone's role at any time from the Team page, except the owner's. The change takes effect the next time they open a page.
Change a role#
Click Team in the menu.
Find the person under People in your workspace name.
Open the role list next to their name and pick the new role: Admin, Employee, Worker, View only or Accountant.

The role list next to a person on the Team page Click Save next to it.
Not sure which role fits? See Roles: who can do what.
Things to know#
You can't make someone the owner here. The owner hands the workspace over with Make owner. See Hand over the workspace.
You can't change your own role, and nobody can change the owner's role. Your own row shows your role as a label, not a list.
Seats: changing someone from Accountant to any other role needs a free seat ("No free seat on your plan for another team member"). Changing someone to Accountant frees a seat, but only if one of your free accountant seats is open (1 on Starter, 2 on paid plans). Accountants who are turned off don't count, but accountant invites that haven't been accepted do. If they're all taken you'll see "All the free accountant seats on your plan are in use (1 on Starter, 2 on paid plans; invites that haven't been accepted count too). Cancel an unused accountant invite, or change another accountant's role first."
Turned-off people: you can't change the role of someone who's turned off. Turn them back on first.
What happens when an admin stops being an admin#
When you change an admin to a role that can't approve (Employee, Worker, View only or Accountant), Plainstamp takes them out of everything that needs an admin, straight away. The same happens when you turn an admin off or remove them:
Requests that were waiting for them go back to being approved by any admin, so nothing gets stuck.
They're taken out of any approval rules and approval chains that named them as an approver. A rule left with no named approver goes to any admin.
If they were someone's stand-in while away, that stand-in is cleared.
If they managed a department, the department's Manager goes back to No manager (any admin approves), and its requests go to any admin until you pick a new manager. Making them an admin again doesn't put them back as manager.
Their past approvals and everything they did stay in the Activity log.
What changes for the person#
Their menu changes to match the new role. For example, a new Worker sees My work and My tasks instead of the full menu.
Things they sent for approval before stay in My requests and are decided as usual.
Their notification settings stay the same.
