Hand over the workspace to a new owner
Make another admin the owner of the workspace. You stay on as an admin.
Every workspace has one owner. If you're leaving the business, selling it, or just want someone else to run the account, you can hand the workspace over. The new owner gets everything only the owner can do, and you become an admin.
Before you start#
The person must already be an Admin in the workspace, and turned on. If they aren't:
Not in the workspace yet: invite them as Admin.
In the workspace with another role: change their role to Admin and click Save.
Hand it over#
Click Team in the menu.
Find the admin you want as the new owner and click Make owner next to their name. (The button only shows next to admins, and only for the owner.)

The Make owner button next to an admin Click Yes, make their first name owner to confirm, or Cancel.

Plainstamp asks once more before handing over
You'll see "Name is now the owner. You're an admin." The change is recorded in the Activity log.
What changes#
| The new owner | You | |
|---|---|---|
| Role | Owner | Admin |
| Change the plan on Plan & billing | Yes | No |
| Download everything on Settings | Yes | No |
| Require two-step sign-in for everyone | Yes | No |
| Hand the workspace over again | Yes | No |
| Can be turned off or removed | No | Yes, by an admin |
| Can leave the workspace | No | Yes |
Everything else stays the same: all tasks, money records, approvals, files and settings, and every other person's role.
Why hand over before leaving#
The owner can't leave the workspace or be removed, and can't delete their Plainstamp account while other people are still in a workspace they own. Handing over first makes sure your team keeps working without you. After that you can leave the workspace from Settings, or the new owner can turn you off.
"Make them an admin first, then hand it over"#
You'll see this if the person isn't an active admin. Change their role to Admin, click Save, then try Make owner again.
