Get a free DeepL API key

Step by step, sign up for DeepL API Free (500,000 characters a month) and paste the key into Plainstamp.

DeepL API Free translates up to 500,000 characters a month at no cost. Many people find its Spanish and Portuguese especially natural. It takes about 5 minutes.

DeepL can't translate into Haitian Creole, Vietnamese, Filipino, Hindi, Hebrew or Yiddish. If anyone on your team reads one of those, use Azure or Google instead.

1. Sign up for DeepL API Free#

  1. Go to deepl.com/pro-api and choose the DeepL API Free plan. (Make sure it's the API plan, not DeepL Pro for the website and apps.)

  2. Create the account. DeepL asks for a card to check who you are. The free plan isn't charged.

2. Copy the key#

  1. Sign in at deepl.com and open your Account, then the API Keys tab.

  2. Copy the key. A free key ends in :fx.

3. Paste it into Plainstamp#

  1. In Plainstamp, go to Settings, then Language & translation.

  2. Under Translation for this workspace, choose Do it yourself · free.

  3. Translation service: DeepL.

  4. Paste the key into API key and click Test and turn on.

If you see "DeepL didn't accept the key", copy it again, including the :fx at the end.
