A file won't upload
What to do when a photo, PDF or spreadsheet won't attach: the file is too big, the wrong type, or your plan's file space is full.
You can attach files to tasks, bills, transactions, vendors and comments. If one doesn't go up, a message at the bottom of the screen says why.
What the messages mean#
| You see | What to do |
|---|---|
| "… is over 20 MB." | Each file can be up to 20 MB. Make it smaller: for a scanned PDF, scan at a lower quality or split it into parts; for a photo, send a smaller copy. |
| "…: use a photo, PDF, Word, Excel or CSV file." | Plainstamp takes photos (JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, GIF), PDFs, Word and Excel files, CSV and plain text. Save or export the file as one of those, for example as a PDF. |
| "Your plan's file space is full. Upgrade on the Plan & billing page, or remove old files." | Your workspace has used all the file space on its plan. See below. |
| "Couldn't upload …" or "Couldn't save …" | Usually a dropped connection. Check your internet and try again. |
| "Sign in again to upload files." | You were signed out. Sign in and attach the file again. |
Photos taken on a phone are made smaller before they upload, so they go up quickly on mobile data.
When the file space is full#
Each plan includes a set amount of file space for the whole workspace: Starter 1 GB, Small 5 GB, Team 25 GB and Business 100 GB. When it's full, new files won't upload. Everything already saved stays where it is, and you can still type in entries without a file.
To make room:
Owners and admins can check how much is used at the top of Plan & billing.
Remove files you don't need: open the item and remove the file, or delete old items you no longer need. Deleted items keep their files in the Trash for 7 days; empty the trash to free the space sooner.
Or the owner can move to a bigger plan on Plan & billing. See Choose or change your plan.
The file attached, but the form wasn't filled in#
That's a separate thing: Plainstamp reads photos and PDFs of invoices and receipts to fill in the form, up to a number of reads a month. See Nothing happens when I tap Snap a receipt.
Still stuck?#
Try another browser, or attach the file from a computer. If it still won't go, email support@plainstamp.com with the file's name, type and size.
