My two-step sign-in code doesn't work

Fix a rejected 6-digit code, and what to do if you lost the phone with your authenticator app.

Two-step sign-in asks for a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone (such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, 1Password or Authy) after your password. If Plainstamp says "That code didn't work. Enter the code showing in your app right now.":

  1. Use the code showing now. Codes change every 30 seconds. If the timer in the app is about to run out, wait for the next code and type it quickly.

  2. Pick the right entry. If you have several accounts in the app, use the one labelled Plainstamp (with your email).

  3. Check your phone's clock. Codes depend on the exact time. In your phone's settings, make sure the date and time are set automatically.

  4. Type just the 6 digits. Spaces are fine; letters aren't.

Why am I asked to set it up?#

If you see Set up two-step sign-in with "Your workspace asks everyone to sign in with a code from their phone as well as their password", the owner of your workspace has made it required. You can't see that workspace until you set it up:

  1. Open an authenticator app on your phone and add an account.

  2. Scan the QR code on the screen. If you can't scan it, type the key shown under Can't scan? into the app instead.

  3. Type the 6-digit code the app shows and click Turn on two-step sign-in.

If you'd rather not, click Sign out at the bottom of the page and talk to your workspace owner.

I lost my phone or got a new one#

Without the app you can't make codes. Your workspace owner can't turn it off for you.

  • Got a new phone and still have the old one? Sign in on a computer with the old phone, go to Settings › Sign-in & security, click Remove, enter a code from the old phone and click Remove two-step sign-in, then click Set up two-step sign-in and scan the code with the new phone. Some authenticator apps can also move your accounts to a new phone for you.

  • Lost the phone? Email support@plainstamp.com from the address you sign in with. We'll check it's really you before we reset two-step sign-in, so you can set it up again.
