It says my plan's people limit is reached

Why you can't invite someone or change their role, and how to free up a seat or get more.

Each plan includes a number of seats: Starter 3, Small 6, Team 20 and Business unlimited. When they're all used, Plainstamp stops new invites with "Your plan's people limit is reached (pending invites count too)."

What counts toward the limit#

  • Everyone in the workspace except accountants, including you.

  • Invites that haven't been used yet, until they expire (after 14 days) or you cancel them.

What doesn't count:

  • Accountants (and accountant invites), up to 1 on Starter and 2 on paid plans. They're free.

  • People who have been turned off. They don't use a seat, and turned-off accountants don't use an accountant seat.

The Team page shows "X of Y seats used", with how many are still waiting to join.

Free up a seat#

  1. Go to Team.

  2. Under Waiting to join, click Cancel invite on any invite nobody is going to use.

  3. For someone who has left, click Turn off next to their name. Their name stays on everything they did, and they no longer use a seat. Or click Remove to take them out of the workspace.

  4. If the person is your outside bookkeeper, change their role to Accountant.

Get more seats#

When you're full, owners and admins see Get more seats on the Team page. The owner can move to a bigger plan on Plan & billing. See Change your plan.

  • "All the free accountant seats on your plan are taken or invited (1 on Starter, 2 on paid plans)." Cancel an unused accountant invite, or give someone a different role. Upgrading from Starter also gives you a second accountant seat.

  • "No free seat on your plan for another team member." You tried to change an accountant into another role, which needs a seat. Free one up first.

  • "All the free accountant seats on your plan are in use, so this accountant can't be turned back on." Your accountant seats are all used by accountants who are on, or by accountant invites. Turn another accountant off, change their role, or cancel an unused accountant invite, then click Turn back on again.

  • "This workspace has reached the number of people on its plan." The person you invited sees this when they open the link. Free up a seat, then ask them to try the same link again.
