Require two-step sign-in for everyone

Make everyone in your workspace use a code from their phone when they sign in, and what your team will see.

As the owner, you can make two-step sign-in required for everyone in your workspace. People who haven't set it up are asked to do it the next time they open the workspace, before they can see anything.

Turn it on#

  1. First, turn on two-step sign-in for your own account. See Turn on two-step sign-in. Until you do, the switch is greyed out with the note "Set up two-step sign-in for your own account above to turn this on."

  2. In the menu on the left, click Settings, then the Sign-in & security tab.

  3. Under For everyone in your workspace name, turn on Everyone must use two-step sign-in.

The Everyone must use two-step sign-in switch
The Everyone must use two-step sign-in switch
  4. You see "Everyone will be asked to set up two-step sign-in the next time they open this workspace."

The change is recorded in the workspace's activity log.

What your team sees#

The next time someone without two-step sign-in opens the workspace, they see a Set up two-step sign-in page that says: "Your workspace asks everyone to sign in with a code from their phone as well as their password. It takes a minute to set up." They:

  1. Scan the QR code with their authenticator app (or type in the key).

  2. Type the 6-digit code from the app.

  3. Click Turn on two-step sign-in, and the workspace opens.

People who already use two-step sign-in don't notice any change. While it's required, nobody can remove their last authenticator app from their account.

Turn it off#

Go back to Settings > Sign-in & security and turn off Everyone must use two-step sign-in. You see "Two-step sign-in is now optional." People who set it up keep using it until they remove it themselves.

If someone loses their phone#
