Connect Google Calendar

Put the tasks given to you in their own calendar in your Google Calendar, kept up to date within a minute, and disconnect it when you're done.

If you use Google Calendar, you can connect it to Plainstamp. Plainstamp then makes its own calendar in your Google account and puts the tasks given to you in it. When a task changes, your Google Calendar changes within about a minute, which is much faster than a calendar link.

Connect it#

  1. In the menu on the left, click Settings.

  2. Click the Notifications tab.

  3. Scroll to Your tasks in your calendar. Under Google Calendar, click Connect Google Calendar.

  4. Google opens. Pick your Google account and allow Plainstamp to make and manage its own calendar. Keep that box ticked, or the connection won't work.

  5. You're brought back to Plainstamp and see "Google Calendar is connected. Your tasks are in the “Plainstamp” calendar."

Open Google Calendar. On the left you'll see a new calendar called "Plainstamp · your workspace name". It may take a moment for every task to appear.

What's in the Google calendar#

  • Open tasks given to you that have a due date. Each one is an all-day event on its due date.

  • From 60 days ago to about a year ahead. Older overdue tasks drop off.

  • Event details. Open an event to see the task's priority, its details and a link that opens the task in Plainstamp.

  • It doesn't make you look busy. The events are marked as free time, so they don't block meetings.

Tasks come off the calendar when they're marked done, deleted, given to someone else, left unassigned, or have their due date removed. A task you reopen comes back.

The Google calendar always shows just the tasks given to you, even if you're an owner or admin and chose Every task in the workspace for your calendar link.

See when it last updated#

Once connected, the panel shows "Connected as your Google address · last updated …". Changes normally come through on their own within a minute. If you want to update it straight away, click Update now. You'll see "Your Google Calendar is up to date."

If something went wrong, the panel shows Last problem: and what happened.

On your phone#

The Plainstamp calendar shows in the Google Calendar app on your phone once you're signed in to the same Google account there. If you don't see it, open the app's menu and make sure the Plainstamp calendar is ticked.

Samsung Calendar shows your Google calendars too: in Samsung Calendar, open the menu, tap Manage calendars and make sure your Google account is on.

More than one workspace#

The connection is for one workspace. If you're in several, connect Google Calendar in each one you want. Each gets its own "Plainstamp · workspace name" calendar.

If it says to reconnect#

If you remove Plainstamp's access in your Google account, or Google stops letting Plainstamp update the calendar, the panel says "Google stopped letting Plainstamp update your calendar, so your tasks there are out of date. Connect again to fix it."

  1. Click Reconnect.

  2. Allow access on Google's page again.

Disconnect it#

  1. Go to Settings › Notifications › Your tasks in your calendar.

  2. If you also want the Plainstamp calendar taken out of Google, tick Also remove the Plainstamp calendar from Google.

  3. Click Disconnect, then OK to confirm.

Without the box ticked, the calendar stays in Google but stops updating, and you can delete it in Google yourself. With it ticked, it's removed from Google too.

If Connect Google Calendar is greyed out#

  • On the Starter plan, the whole Your tasks in your calendar section shows "Calendar sync comes with the Small plan and up." instead. See Plans: what each one includes.

  • If it says "Google Calendar isn't set up yet.", connecting to Google isn't available on this Plainstamp site. Use the calendar link instead; it works with Google Calendar too, just more slowly.
